Licensing
Fusor Studio downloads as Fusor Studio Lite (Lite). Lite is free and needs no account. It loads and runs any fusor on disk, including a file someone sent you, as many times as you like, with no session limit.
Lite is also how you study a fusor you did not write. Run the file and watch and listen as the parameters modulate across the transition. The author's timing is visible in the Fusor player while the run is under way, and the fusor's curves can be opened in the domain editor to read.
What Lite includes
- Running any fusor, on the clock, at a fixed 16 bars, as often as you like.
- Every session edit. Everything in Session View works and is saved to the fusor file. The Library keeps the same session edits on a fusor's domain cards: domain on or off, FX unit choice, slot order, end-of-run disposition and the Channel Fader variant.
- Taking a single control. Move an EQ knob or a channel fader during a run and the player stops modulating that control until the transition ends.
- Actions in full. Writing, saving, loading, binding to pad slots and firing all work in Lite. See Pad Mode.
- Your Notes, on a fusor's Info tab, is editable and saved to the file.
- Reading a fusor. Its Library entry, its details and its curves, in the domain editor.
- Deleting a fusor, and installing the example files.
What a license adds
Fusor Studio Lite is limited in three ways, and a license adds all three.
Lite runs every transition in Auto Run Mode
Manual and Mixed Run Mode are unavailable. The Run Mode switch stays on Auto, with the Mixed and Manual positions dimmed. A press on either does nothing and shows the reason. A Lite player always opens in Auto, and the clock drives progress from the first bar to the last.
In Lite, moving the crossfader mid-transition never takes progress off the clock: the Fusor player keeps moving the fader itself. A licensed player can take the whole transition over by pressing and holding Manual on the Run Mode switch mid-run, or, when your hardware controller's crossfader is mapped so Fusor Studio can monitor it, by bringing the crossfader to the player's position. In Lite that same hold is refused immediately, because Manual Run Mode is unavailable.
Length is fixed at 16 bars
The bars field shows 16 and cannot be changed in Lite. BPM stays editable at every license level: changing it changes the computed duration, so a Lite run can be matched to the tempo of the material you are playing.
Auto Run Mode is the tutorial that sets other lengths.
Making or changing fusors needs a license
Lite runs and adjusts fusors. Creating a fusor, and changing one outside the session edits and Your Notes, need a license. In Lite:
- The Fusors list has no + for a new fusor, and its right-click menu has no Duplicate.
- A fusor's Info fields are shown as plain text, apart from Your Notes.
- Domains cannot be added, imported or deleted.
- The domain editor opens read-only. Its toolbar reads
Read-only.and offers only Close. - In the Step Sets window, step sets can be opened and read, but not created, saved or deleted.
The Library and the Step Sets window each show the line
Lite runs and adjusts fusors. Making or changing them needs a license.
If a change to a fusor is refused, the status line reads LIC1-Changing fusors needs a license.
Activating a license
Activation happens inside Fusor Studio, on Settings → License, and works by signing in to the account that holds the license with a one-time code emailed to you. There are no license keys to keep. A license change takes effect the next time you open Fusor Studio, whether it is a license you activated, or a Free Trial that ended.
A Free Trial is the full Fusor Studio for 14 days, claimed on your account page on the website when you choose, and activated by the same sign-in. When it ends, Fusor Studio returns to Lite with nothing lost: fusors you made stay on disk and run in Lite.
The tutorials are written for a licensed player, and Setup ends with the steps. How many computers a license covers, and signing out, are in Settings → License.
Fusor Studio Plus is a separate add-on, coming later. It is not included in a Fusor Studio license and is not an upgrade to it.
