Step Sets
The Step Sets window is where stored step sets are authored. Two ways in:
- The Step Sets button in the Library window's header, just after the switcher between the Library's sections. No fusor needs to be open.
- Save Set… on a stepped lane's property strip, which opens the Step Sets window with a new draft pre-filled from that lane's steps (see Stepped Output → Saving a custom step set).
The window holds the step set library. Attach… and Change… on a lane open the same window in a picking view, for applying a set to that lane (see Stepped Output → Attaching a step set).
If the window holds unsaved changes when a lane's Save Set…, Attach… or Change… reaches it, it asks whether to discard them first.
The Step Sets window
The Step Sets window edits a stored step set directly: one place to create a set, edit one you already saved, or overwrite it, whether you arrived from the Library or from a lane's Save Set…. Either route keeps a set's description and DJ-app tags: selecting it in the library list loads them into the form, and saving a lane's steps over an existing set preserves them unless you typed your own.
Layout
Two panes:
- Library list (left): every step set Fusor Studio knows about, bundled and user, each row showing its name, source badge, DJ-app tags, and step count. New at the top starts a blank draft. Click a row to load it into the detail pane.
- Detail pane (right): the metadata form (Name, Description, DJ apps, a display-only id) beside a compact step ladder. The ladder here has no grid and no axes, because a step set is only an ordered list of names.
Click a label on the ladder to Rename…, Add step above, Add step below, or Delete step, under the same rules as on a lane (2-step floor, 16-step ceiling, re-spacing on add or delete). See Stepped Output → Editing the steps on the canvas for how that re-spacing behaves.
Drag a step to reorder it. This is available in the Step Sets window and not on a lane's curve canvas. A stored step set is an ordered list of names, so reordering it here disturbs nothing. On a lane, control points follow their step's name rather than its screen position, so reordering there would silently reshape whatever curve uses that step set.
Selecting a different set in the list discards an unsaved draft. The window edits one set at a time.
Bundled sets
A bundled step set cannot be edited or deleted. Its fields disable, and a note explains why. Use Duplicate: it copies the set into a new, editable draft with " copy" appended to the name and no id yet. A user-saved file cannot have a bundled id, since that would silently shadow the catalog entry it copied.
Duplicate is unavailable on an unsaved draft. A fresh draft from New, or a draft you just made with Duplicate, has to be saved before it can be duplicated again, since there's nothing on disk yet for the copy to be a copy of.
Step set identity
A step set's id is derived from its name the first time you save it (user.<slug>), and it never changes again. Renaming a set afterwards changes the display name only, so a rename never creates a second file: the same file is overwritten in place no matter how many times you rename it. The metadata form shows the id below the other fields, with a line noting that renaming keeps it.
Discarding an edit
Revert restores the loaded draft to whatever was last saved, without closing the Step Sets window. It only appears when there is a saved state to go back to, so a brand-new draft and a bundled set do not show the button.
Closing the curve editor leaves the Step Sets window open with its draft, so a set started from a lane's Save Set… can still be saved. The picking view closes with the curve editor.
Closing the Step Sets window with unsaved changes asks first: Save, Discard, or Keep editing.
Deleting a step set
Delete (user sets only) removes the file after a confirmation. Curves that already used the step set keep their steps. A lane holds its own copy of a step set's labels and values from the moment it is applied, so deleting the library entry does not touch anything you have already authored.
Buttons at a glance
| Button | Does what |
|---|---|
| New | Starts a blank draft: 2 steps, labeled "Off" and "On," no id yet. |
| Duplicate | Copies the selected set, bundled or user, into a new, editable draft. Disabled while the loaded draft is itself unsaved. |
| Revert | Discards changes and restores the draft to its last-saved state, without closing the window. Not rendered for a new draft or a bundled set. |
| Save | Writes the draft to your library's step_sets/ folder (Documents/Fusor/step_sets/ by default). If the name matches a set you already saved, you are asked whether to overwrite it. Unavailable for bundled sets, and disabled until something has changed otherwise. |
| Delete | Removes a user set from the library, after confirming. Unavailable for bundled sets and for a draft that has not been saved yet. |
